Project: St. Thomas Baseball Field

>>> The new ballpark at St. Thomas High School replaced the school’s existing Father Wilson Field and is large enough to accommodate 440 fans.  The new ballpark features a welcoming entry plaza consisting of masonry seat walls, masonry planter walls, and a large niche displaying a backlit school crest mounted on oversized polished CMU.  Our scope of work included two 50-foot dugouts, home and visitor locker rooms, restrooms, a press box, a concession stand, coaches offices and spaces for athletic training and equipment management.  The project utilized approximately 500 oversized polished CMU, 2,000 burnished CMU, 3,000 split-face CMU, and cast stone.  The locker rooms, restrooms, and concession room were constructed using regular CMU with a veneer of 4” architectural CMU.  Since the dugouts and site walls did not require insulation, they were constructed with 8” and 12” architectural CMU.

The main difficulty during the construction of this project was that the field was off-limits due to ongoing work on it.  This created challenges to get material from one dugout to the other.  Material had to be moved using narrow paths around the site using wheelbarrows and block buggies as the forklift was too large to use the path.  Despite this, the structure was completed on time for the other subcontractors to complete the interior work and sitework.  The exquisite facility now stands as one of the premier on-campus high school baseball parks in Texas and the region.
